Plants Make Their Own Sunscreen!

That is right! In Bio220 (human and plant physiology), I learned that plants adapt to their environments by creating and utilizing protective mechanisms such as producing what is equivalent to "sunscreen." This topic is sparking up my interest in the plant physiology area of research and I hope to pursue that interest in the near future.

Through this class, I got to learn how to better take care of plants and even took home a few plants that I (surprisingly) am managing to keep alive through the winter months. It has been such a joy to turn to these plants for a moment of mindfulness and reflection on how much I learned through the opportunities presented in this class and through venturing into a new area of life since most of what we learn in my Biochemistry major is human physiology. Attached above is a picture of the referenced plants!
